Product description

The fantail or “Turkey-Wing” pattern can be seen in the work of traditional Appalachian and indigenous artisans: using this technique our students make a small Whisk broom with a beautifully woven handle and braided detail, (designed by student Allison Dallman and available in natural or Multi), and the beautifully colored Hearthsweep with a fully braided handle. These brooms make a powerful statement about the skills our students develop while at work.

Celebrating a traditional Appalachian use of our native Mountain Laurel and initially made at Berea College during the 75 years in which the Reed family managed Broomcraft, this all-natural broom champions an indigenous fantail pattern that can be seen in the pre-European work of many Native craftspeople. The Cindersweep is perfect for both sweeping clean the grate or hanging decoratively by the mantle.
